With the launch of new phone Samsung Galaxy S Plus, many wonder if we can even call it new, as it’s essentially the Samsung Galaxy S with a slight tweak under the hood. Bringing in exactly same friendly measurements of the original, in size and weight, the Plus suffix hasn’t brought anything extra to the bundle.
It seems as if Samsung took the blueprint for Galaxy S, scratched out Hummingbird chipset, wrote Qualcomm MSM8255T over it and labeled it as Galaxy S Plus. The ’T’ means it’s a faster version found in a good deal of Android phones. The move from a 1GHz processor to a 1.4GHz single core alternative seems to have helped a lot. Although another increase in power is from higher capacity battery, which has increased from a 1500mAh (original) to 1650mAh (newer). This gives it a direct 10% hike from original battery, indeed a full charge will easily get us through the day. Efficiencies with Android and TouchWiz that came along with version 2.3 have also helped; we can see apps load a lot quicker now and far less faltering when flicking around the phone at speed. It has got the exact same measurements of the original, in size and weight, 9.9mm thick and 119g of weight. But as compared to today’s standard, the S Plus can still be considered compact. Also we get to enjoy excellent image quality and viewing angles in a 4- incher. The Mobile phone also uses the same SuperAMOLED WVGA (800 x 480) display as the original. The top features the 3.5 mm headset jack which is left uncovered and the microUSB port, which is protected by a sliding cover whereas the bottom only features the mouthpiece. At the back we have got the 5MP camera lens and the loudspeaker grill. Just like original, there’s no camera flash, nor any camera lens protection. Talking about the video, the Samsung Galaxy S Plus can record video at up to 720p. The audio quality of the Galaxy S Plus is very good indeed, certainly better than almost every other Android Mobile phone in the market and the built-in speakers are pretty powerful too.
Indeed Samsung’s continued refinement of their own software, upgraded speed and new version of Android OS (Android 2.3.3, Gingerbread) has made it a solid phone. And with the changes brought in, the Galaxy S Plus edition has breathe in new life into the old Galaxy S.
